Montgomery County Announces New Campaign Sign Recycling Program
Tired of seeing all of those campaign signs lined across the sidewalks well after the election? Now there is a good for them.

Metal and plastic signs are dotted along streets and roads throughout the County to remind passersby that Nov. 8 is Election Day and who the local candidates are. In years past, tens of thousands of those signs were destined for the trash.
Β
This year, however, the Montgomery County Recycling office has partnered with ReCommunity Recycling, Sullivanβs Scrap Metals and the Montgomery County Democratic and Republican Committeeβs to collect and recycle all types of campaign signs along with their posts and stakes.
Β
βThis collection program does not take the responsibility for cleaning up campaign signs away from candidates.Β Instead, we want to connect candidates and home owners with drop off points so that signs can be recycled instead of thrown in the trash,β said Chris Kaasmann, Montgomery County Recycling Coordinator.
Β
Following the collection, all signs and stakes will be delivered to ReCommunity Recycling in Philadelphia and Sullivanβs Scrap Metals in Lower Moreland Township for recycling.Β The small corrugated and bag type plastic lawn signs are recyclable but should not be tossed into a standard curbside recycling bin.Β Similarly metal stakes should not be recycled curbside but can be recovered at a scrap metal facility.
Β
Between November 9 and 23, candidates and homeowners will be able to drop off campaign signs at specific locations throughout the county. The closest one to Lower Moreland is:
