LOWER MORELAND, PA β€” A Philadelphia man who was charged late last year in connection with an apparent road rage incident in this eastern Montgomery County community has been arrested on a warrant and is now imprisoned at the county correctional facility in lieu of posting bail, police announced.

Rey Orlando Curbelo Rodriguez, 28, of Northeast Philly, was picked up by Lower Moreland Police on July 14 after an arrest warrant had been issued for the defendant.

The case against Rodriguez dates back to Oct. 21, 2021, when a Lower Moreland officer stopped a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in a road rage incident.

The driver, who was later identified as Rodriguez by his own passenger, was seen driving erratically and too closely to other vehicles, police stated.

Officers made contact with the driver β€” who initially gave a fictious name β€” and they instructed him to pull into a nearby parking lot due to safety concerns amid heavy traffic, but the driver instead took off and fled the scene, according to police.

The vehicle eventually crashed, and the driver escaped on foot, police said. The passenger in the vehicle ultimately identified the driver as Rodriguez.

Patch reported on the case back in November of last year, at which time Lower Moreland Police said they believed that Rodriguez was possibly being held by another police agency, possibly the Philadelphia Police Department, on unrelated charges.

A Philadelphia Police spokesman subsequently confirmed that the defendant was being held in a city prison.

It was not immediately clear whether Rodriguez was arrested on the warrant and picked up by Philadelphia prison officials or elsewhere when he was taken into custody two weeks ago.

Rodriguez is facing a host of felony and misdemeanor counts in connection with the alleged road rage incident in Lower Moreland.

An overview of those charges can be found in Patch's previous reporting here.

Court records show that a preliminary hearing was originally scheduled to take place earlier this week but that the proceeding has since been rescheduled and pushed to Aug. 8 before Magisterial District Judge Jay S. Friedenberg.
