Route 232 Bridge Reopens Ahead of Schedule
The Route 232 bridge will reopen in April

The stone bridge, which was closed on March 4, was originally scheduled to reopen in early April
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Friday reopened Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) in Northampton Township after completing structural repairs to the bridge located between the intersections of Twining Road and Tapeworm Lane.
The bridge, which was closed on March 4, was originally scheduled to reopen in early April.
Crews worked the past three weeks to repair the bridgeβs deteriorated deck and rebuild the stone wing walls that support Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) at its approach to the structure. The severe structural deterioration of a stone wing wall prompted this earlier-than-scheduled bridge rehabilitation project.
The one-span, concrete slab bridge with stone masonry walls was built in the late 1920s.
James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia was the general contractor on the project that cost approximately $60,000.
