Trade In Your Lawn Mower For a New One to Promote Air Quality

There will be a lawn mower trade-in event at Springfield HS on Saturday.

Are you tired of your electric lawn mower? What about air pollution? Then here's your chance to kill two birds with one stone. Trade in your current electric mower for a discounted battery-powered or environmentally friendly one.

The following is the press release from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission:

WHAT: Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Environmentally conscious residents in southeastern PA will recycle their old, gasoline-powered lawn mowers and purchase environmentally friendly, discounted electric or battery-powered mowers at an event on Saturday, May 7 in Springfield Township, Montgomery County.

The event will begin with a welcome/press conference at 9:30 a.m., followed by the disposal of the first mower to β€œofficially” start the event. An assembly line will be set up in the high school parking lot, and participants drive through the following steps:

Step 1 – Registration confirmation

Step 2 – Drop off old mower (Sustainable Waste Solutions will have a large, colorful tractor trailer on-site to haul away the old mowers for recycling.)

Step 3 – Pick up new mower (Black and Decker will have electric and battery-powered mowers on display, available for purchase at a discount.)

Also happening at the press conference will be the β€œkick-off” to the 2011 Ozone Season; Air Quality Excellence Awards will be presented to Upper Merion Township and GlaxoSmithKline during the press conference at 9:30 a.m. as well.

1801 East Paper Mill Road, Erdenheim, PA (just off the paper Mill Road exit of Rt. 309)

WHO:Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Environmentally conscious residents who will trade in their old lawn mowers for more β€œgreen” ones

Representatives from Black & Decker, DEP, DVRPC, Air Quality Partnership

DETAILS: Β Β Β Β Β  AQP is a program of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), which educates residents about the dangerous effects of ground-level ozone, and provides air quality forecasts to the public. Gas-powered lawn mowers are a major contributor to ground-level ozone, and purchasing an electric mower is just one way the public can help the environment.
