Video: Dangers at the Carnival?
'Break a Bottle' at the OLGC Carnival can present dangers with broken shards of glass flying through the air.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish opened its carnival on Thursday in Southampton, and there's one game that looked a little off.
"Break a Bottle," as it's called, features old beer bottles turned upside down and then children of all ages are supplied with baseballs to hurl as hard as they can so they are assured to "break a bottle."
The outcome is numerous shards of glass all over the ground. And there are kids standing 10 feet away seperated by only the railing they hang over while watching their other friends play the game. There's always a chance a piece of glass could cause a serious injury to not just a child, but anyone standing in the near vacinity.

I asked the attendent running the game if she'd ever been hit, or seen anyone playing the game get hit.
"I'm only filling in for the guy who normally runs it, but I'm sure he's been hit plenty of times," she said. "I'm sure he's bent down to pick up a ball and shards of glass have gotten him in the hand. It's a dangerous game."
