DA: Delaware County Body Shop Insurance Scam Netted $85K

Eleven suspects have been arrested and charged with fraud for alleged involvement in insurance scheme.

A four-year investigation by the Delaware County District Attorney’s office has resulted in the arrest of 11 people related to an alleged insurance fraud scheme centering around a Darby Borough body shop, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia.

According to reports, the scam was led by Frank Wilson, 45, of Middletown, Del., who allegedly damaged cars left at his repair shop, Transformer Collision Specialist on Summit Street in Darby, and submitted fraudulent insurance claims, tallying more than $85,000 in profits.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports that accomplices would allegedly leave their vehicles overnight at the shop, and Wilson would take the cars to another, nearby lot. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan told reporters that Wilson would ram the cars into a pole or slam a forklift into them. After the claim had been paid out, Wilson would repair the car at a lower price and take home the difference.
