Firefighters Respond to House Fire on Diane Drive in East Whiteland
The fire and smoke resulted in extensive building damage and the death of a cat.
Firefighters responded to a residential fire on Diane Drive in East Whiteland Monday afternoon after neighbors reported smoke emanating from the home.
The fire apparently began in the kitchen and caused extensive damage to the rear of the building, according to East Whiteland Deputy Fire Chief Eric Nowaczyk. No people were home at the time, but one cat died, apparently of smoke inhalation.
Diane Drive is located north of King Road near Route 352. Firefighters from , and Berwyn responded to the call. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Neighbor Ed Siwula, who reported the fire, said he noticed smoke coming from the home's roof vents and smelled burning wood. The report came in at 11:59 a.m., and the fire was reported under control at 12:35 p.m., though Nowaczyk said the firefighters would spend a good amount of extra time making sure no hot spots still existed in the extensive debris.
