MALVERN, PA — Health inspectors paid visits to numerous establishments in the Malvern area in July.
Inspectors found some establishments to be in violation of health codes set by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

- Holiday Inn Express, 1 Morehall Road: 13 violations on July 27: They include person in charge not familiar with health practices, expired yogurt, apple in the service line, inaccurate thermometer in the refrigerator, loose counter, drain stopper not sealed, staff not using sanitizer, repair spigot leak, Dumpster lids open, no single-use towels in the kitchen.
- Malvern Buttery, 233 E. King St.: 10 violations on July 27: Most corrected on-site during the inspection. They include employees observed not washing hands, must throw out torn spatulas when new ones arrive, nonfood areas not being cleaned, and tables for staff to eat too close to the pastry team.
- Compass One, 1401 Atwater Drive: one violation on July 25: Facility did not report when food was discarded.
- Himalayan Exotic Indian Cuisine, 81 Lancaster Ave., 20 violations on July 25: The person in charge does not understand food safety, raw animal foods stored near ready-to-eat food, storage containers not labeled, food displayed without sneeze guards, staff needs training on reheating methods, need dates on sauces to ensure they are not beyond seven days, replace cracks in the floor, and ceiling tiles stained.
- The Desmond, 1 Liberty Boulevard: 10 violations on July 20, and most were repaired on the spot. They include ice stored at a bar without cover, food not labeled, soda holders in disrepair, and stained tiles in storage rooms.
- La Costentia, 490 Lancaster Ave.: 9 violations on July 20, and most were repaired on the spot. They include single-use grocery bags to store raw meat, need bleach test strips, mops not hung up to air dry, need an employee to be certified in health safety.
- House of Biryanis & Kebabs, 309 Lancaster Ave.; 17 violations on July 19. Most were repaired during the inspection. They include food stored in open containers, ready-to-eat food held more than 24 hours, ice build up in the freezer, non-food surfaces not clean, need to retrain staff on washing and airdrying, trash receptacle not covered, light bulbs not working in restrooms, flies in kitchen.
- Buena Vista Restaurant, 215 Lancaster Ave.: one violation, temperature-controlled foods prepared in excess of seven days.
- Sutao Cafe Inc., 81 Lancaster Ave.: 10 violations on July 14. They include, temperature-controlled ready-to-eat food held for more than 24 hours, ice machine needs cleaning, walls are om disrepair and ceiling tiles stained, need a handwashing sign for employees in the kitchen.
