Malvern Committee Reviews Use Of $361,000 In American Rescue Funds

Recommendations include the economic revitalization of the downtown area and stormwater management.

MALVERN — A committee of borough council members and residents on Friday informally agreed to allocate $117,000 to economic revitalization of the downtown.

The committee is deciding how best to spend $361,000 in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to recover from the pandemic.

The revitalization would include hiring a main street manager to serve as a liaison between the borough and the businesses community.

The economic improvements also includes allocating $5,000 for a summer night market, which could include food, entertainment and crafts.

The group plans to meet again to finalize recommendations to Borough Council. Council will then vote on a final plan.

The recommendations also include:

  • $37,000 for upgrades at the Malvern Fire Company station.
  • $117,000 for public works, including stormwater management.
  • $40,000 for library renovations
  • $40,000 for borough hall renovations.
  • $15,000 for environmental upgrades, including electric vehicle charging stations and composting.

Borough Council will make the final determination.

The 1.3-square mile borough has a population of an estimated 3,000 and is part of the Great Valley School District.
