Malvern Man Pleads Guilty to DUI Crash

Possible jail time is in store for the man who crashed into another car and caused serious injury to an elderly driver in October.

A Malvern man could face up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault while driving under the influence before a Chester County judge Monday, the Daily Local News reports.

Michael Stephen Beeker, 34, of the 300 block of Sidley Road in Malvern, also pleaded guilty to a separate DUI charge and has been remanded to Chester County Prison while Judge Patrick Carmody conducts a pre-sentencing investigation.

According to the report, Chester County Deputy District Attorney Thomas Ost-Prisco recommends a prison sentence of three-to-six years, based on Beeker’s prior run-ins with the law. Beeker had previously been arrested and charged with a DUI when he was 18 and again in 2004, the report says.

Beeker was driving northbound on Westtown-Thornton Road when he lost control of his vehicle, police say, and crossed the center line of the roadway and struck the Mercedes Benz head-on.

The 80-year-old driver was removed from her vehicle by members of Fame Fire Company and transported to Paoli Hospital with serious injuries. Beeker failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance and also careless driving.

Beeker waived his preliminary hearing and remained in Chester County Prison. His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
