Malvern Prep Water Polo Team Plans To Swim At Alcatraz
The swim is to raise funds for Hydrocephalus, a neurological condition impacting the brain, that affects 1 million Americans.

MALVERN, PA — Malvern Prep water polo team plans to participate in the 19th Alcatraz Swim for Hydrocephalus Research on Aug. 19.
The Friars will use the 1.25-mile swim from the coast of San Francisco to Alcatraz to kick off their rigorous pre-season training in Northern California.
Hydrocephalus is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of fluid in cavities in the brain.

The Friars plan to contend for the Inter-Academic League title.
Coach Jay Schiller said the boys will accomplish together something that was thought to be impossible for decades while giving back to the world around them.

Schiller said the team hopes to raise $5,000.
“As soon as I learned about Team Hydro and the ground-breaking research that Team Hydro is enabling, and the amazing cause, I knew that it was something we had to be a part of,” Schiller said.
Dr. Samuel Finlayso, Team Hydro co-founder, said that the team's mission is to help cure hydrocephalus.
“This means directing every dollar donated for research into projects designed to uncover novel mechanisms of disease and/or to design and develop new treatments," he said.
