Township to Adopt Tiny Plot of Abandoned Land

The roughly 40-by-80-foot near General Warren Inn plot of earth has no owner.

At its July 13 meeting, the East Whiteland Board of Supervisors voted to adopt a small, unclaimed plot of land off Village Way near Malvern Borough.

Township manager Terry Woodman told the board that she'd received a call from the Chester County Assessment office.

"They've discovered a very small parcel of ground that has no owner," Woodman said.

Bill Holmes asked if there was any downside to adopting the land.

"No hazardous waste there, or anything, that we're taking on?" Virginia McMichael asked.

Woodman said there was no real downside to taking on the land.

"I'd rather take ownership of an odd little piece of land than have some developer pick it up and try to squeeze way too much onto it, and have to battle it through the zoning boards," she said.

The board voted 3-0 to "pursue with the county the abandoned property on Village Way."
