Turnpike Construction Will Affect Local Roads

Morehall, Yellow Springs and Howells roads will see restrictions and closures as crews work on the new Route 29 interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Editor's note: The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in March 2011 on construction of a new, E-ZPass-only interchange at Route 29 in East Whiteland. The interchange is slated to be open to traffic by fall 2012. As crews clear the construction area, drivers will see restrictions on some local roads. The following information comes Mimi Doyle, a spokesperson for the PTC.

[B]elow is a brief outline of project related traffic restrictions, road closures and detour information occurring next week.

YELLOW SPRINGS ROAD:

  • Monday - Friday (April 2-6) 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. will be closed to thru-traffic and a detour implemented for approximately 2-3 weeks between N. Valley Road and Route 29. This work is expected to last 2-3 weeks. Notifications will be sent each week as needed until the work is completed and the detour lifted.

Yellow Springs Road will be detoured over North Valley Road, East Swedesford Road, and Route 29 (Morehall Road).  Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. 

  • Flagger controlled single-lane traffic restrictions on Yellow Springs Road between Route 29 (Morehall Road) and Howells Road during transportation of excavation material.

STATE ROUTE 29:

  • Friday (April 6) 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Temporary lane closures southbound for tree removal on Route 29 between Atwater Drive and Great Valley Parkway. (Rain date, Mon. 4/9)

HOWELLS ROAD:

Closed Saturday (March 31) between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The contractor will continue to utilize Monday - Saturday closures between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. until further notice. Notifications of Saturday closures continue to be provided to the residents on Howells Road.
