U.S. 202 North Traffic Pattern Change Scheduled this Weekend

The following was provided to Patch by PennDOT:

Nighttime and weekend construction is scheduled to move the northbound travel lanes on U.S. 202 to the center of the highway between the U.S. 30 and Route 401 interchanges in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The traffic pattern change is part of PennDOT’s $63.3 million project to rebuild and widen 2.5 miles of U.S. 202 to six lanes between U.S. 30 and Route 401. The contractor moved southbound U.S. 202 traffic over to the newly built southbound lanes early Thursday morning (Dec. 18).

Weather permitting, PennDOT’s contractor plans to shift two lanes of northbound U.S. 202 traffic on Sunday (Dec. 21) by 10 a.m. In the event construction is postponed due to inclement weather, the schedule will move forward one night.

The following lane and ramp closures are scheduled on U.S. 202:

From 8 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 18) to 5 a.m. Friday (Dec. 19), U.S. 202 South will be reduced to one lane between Route 401 and U.S. 30;

From 8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 19) to 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 20), U.S. 202 North and South will be reduced to one lane from U.S. 30 to just north of Route 401;

8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 19) to 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 20), the U.S. 202 North off-ramp to Route 401 will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic off at U.S. 30, then right on U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and left at Route 401;

From 8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 19) to 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 20), the Route 401 on-ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic east on Route 401, left at Swedesford Road, right at Route 29 and left at Matthews Road to the on-ramp to U.S. 202 North;

From 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20) to 10 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 21), U.S. 202 North will be reduced to one lane from U.S. 30 to just north of Route 401;

From 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20) to 5 a.m. Monday (Dec. 22), the U.S. 202 North off-ramp to Route 401 will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic off at U.S. 30, then right on U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and left at Route 401;

From 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20) to 10 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 21), the Route 401 on-ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic east on Route 401, left at Swedesford Road, right at Route 29 and left at Matthews Road to the on-ramp to U.S. 202 North;

From 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20) to 10 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 21), the U.S. 30 East off-ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic off at the Business U.S. 30 exit ramp, then right onto U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and right at the ramp to U.S. 202 North;

From 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 21) to 5 a.m. Monday (Dec. 22), U.S. 202 North will be reduced to one lane from U.S. 30 to just north of Route 401;

From 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 21) to 5 a.m. Monday (Dec. 22), the Route 401 on-ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic east on Route 401, left at Swedesford Road, right at Route 29 and left at Matthews Road to the on-ramp to U.S. 202 North;

From 8 p.m. Monday (Dec. 22) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 23), U.S. 202 North will be reduced to one lane from U.S. 30 to just north of Route 401;

From 8 p.m. Monday (Dec. 22) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 23), the Route 401 on-ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic east on Route 401, left at Swedesford Road, right at Route 29 and left at Matthews Road to the on-ramp to U.S. 202 North; and

From 8 p.m. Monday (Dec. 22) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 23), the U.S. 202 North off-ramp to Route 401 will be closed. The posted detour will take traffic off at U.S. 30, then right on U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and left at Route 401.

PennDOT’s contractor, Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, has worked since December 2013 to rebuild and widen the southbound side of U.S. 202.

Once the traffic pattern changes are finalized, crews will rebuild the northbound side of U.S. 202 through 2015. The project is scheduled to finish in May 2016.

Construction to widen U.S. 202 between the Route 401 and U.S. 30 interchanges began in April 2013. This project is the second and final mainline contract for the widening of 6.5 miles of U.S. 202 from just south of the Route 252/Swedesford Interchange to U.S. 30.

PennDOT opened the newly expanded four-mile long section of U.S. 202 from north of Route 401 to the Route 252/Swedesford Road Interchange in late September 2014.
