Blotter: Springfield Rd. Apartment Burglarized, Jewelry Stolen

The following information has been provided by the Marple Township Police Department. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

BROOMALL–On Jan. 14 at approximately 3:25 p.m., Marple police responded to a home on the 2600 block of Springfield Road for a reported burglary in process. According to the report, police surrounded the area of the home but it appeared that the burglar had fled the scene before police arrival.

According to the report, entry was only gained into the rear one-bedroom apartment via a side window towards the rear of the driveway. The main portion of the home was still locked and found to be secure.

The home has a one-bedroom apartment in the rear section of the home and is rented out to a relative, according to the report. The relative has lived in the apartment for the past six years and informed police that there was a previous burglar at the home about four years ago in which the main part of the home was entered.

The actor(s) had gained entry into the apartment by forcing open a side window that led into the bedroom of the home, and left via the front door which tripped the alarm, said police in the incident report.

According to the report, while entering through the side window, the lamp and alarm clock that was on a night stand was knocked to the floor. It is believed that a Tiffany & Co. bracelet and necklace was stolen from the room.

In the small kitchen area, according to the report, there were a few boxes that were opened and dumped which held various jewelry items. In addition, in the living room of the home, police discovered additional boxes that were dumped which contained more jewelry items.

No cash was kept in the apartment and a laptop and prescription medications were left untouched. The initial value of stolen items are approximately $1,500-$3,000.
