Speed Limits Restored, But Slippery Conditions Persist

Plus, more snow is on the way.

Slushy, slippery conditions led to multiple school and government delays Monday morning, and more snow is on the way.

Several thousand people in the region were without power Monday, PECO said.

Speed limits have been restored on area roadways, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Monday morning.

Speed limits had been reduced to 45 mph on the following roadways, PennDOT said:

  • Interstates 76, 95, 476, 676;
  • U.S. Routes 1, 30, 202, 422; and
  • State Routes 63, 100 Spur and 309.

PennDOT on Monday morning reminded drivers to clear their cars before hitting the road. “Snow/ice must be cleared from your car,” the agency Tweeted. “If snow/ice from your car cause death/injury, you can be penalized!”

People should remain cautious Monday night and Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service said, because “any snow or ice that melts during the day and does not dry before sunset will freeze tonight. This will lead to icy spots, particularly on untreated surfaces.”

Here’s the hour-by-hour forecast for the next few days, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Monday afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
  • Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 17. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph.
  • Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Tuesday night: Snow and sleet before 10 p.m., then rain and sleet between 10 and 11p.m., then rain after 11 p.m. Low around 32. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 46. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday night: Rain likely before 2am, then snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 31. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
