Woman Walking On I-95 In Delco Fatally Struck By Vehicle: State Police

Ana M. Hernandez, 44, of Wilmington, was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday morning on Interstate 95 south in Tinicum Township, police said.

TINICUM TOWNSNIP, PA — A Delaware woman was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Delaware County Sunday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Killed was Ana M. Hernandez, 44, of Wilmington, Delaware.

The crash happened at about 2:59 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 8.7 on I-95 south.

A 2015 Lexus RX3 being driven by Donald Schmidt Jr., 42, of Woodston, New Jersey, just got onto the highway and started accelerating, reaching 65 to 70 miles per hour.

State police said Hernandez was walking on the highway in the rightmost lane when the Lexus struck her.

The impact sent Hernandez across all lanes, and she landed in the northbound I-95 lanes, police said.

Schmidt continued driving, not knowing what he had hit, and stopped at the Royal Farms at 105 South Stewart Ave. in Tinicum.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:07 a.m.

Police noted the crash area was slick due to rain.

No charges have been filed.
