2 Eastern PA Hospitals To Close

Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital in Delaware County are closing, managing company FTI Consulting said Monday.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA β€” Two suburban Pennsylvania hospitals have announced they will close due to financial woes.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital in Delaware County are closing. The parent company of the beleaguered healthcare facilities, Prospect Medical Holdings, is filing closure notices and "begin the process of winding down Crozer Health and all of its operations," according to a statement from the company serving as the Crozer Health receiver.

"As Court appointed receiver, we are disappointed an alternative resolution and sale could not be reached," FTI Consulting said in a statement Monday. "We are thankful to all those who came forward and offered potential solutions to sustain operations, as well as the patients who put their trust in Crozer Health and the dedicated employees who have continued to show up at work leading up to and throughout this process to provide the care and comfort patients need."

FTI said questions about the closure, including the transitioning of patients and affected employees' futures, should be directed to Prospect Medical Holdings.

In October 2024, former Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry filed a civil lawsuit against Prospect Medical Holdings, accusing the group of "looting" Crozer Health System to the benefit of shareholders and neglecting the hospital system, its patients, and its staff since 2016.

In January, Prospect Medical Holdings filed for bankruptcy in January, then in March announced plans to close the two hospitals.

Since then, Delaware County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and others have worked to find a solution to prevent the facilities from closing.

The past several months have been filled with court hearings to determine the fate of these two crucial hospitals, that largely provide healthcare for underserved people in the region.
