Busy Bridge Closed Indefinitely In Delco Due To Deterioration
Route 420 south over Darby Creek in Prospect Park and Tinicum is closed until further notice due to beam and bearing pedestal deterioration.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — A bridge that sees about 19,270 vehicles daily in Delaware County is close indefinitely due to significant deterioration, PennDOT said.
The bridge carrying southbound Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) over Darby Creek in Prospect Park Borough and Tinicum Township closed Wednesday night.
The closure come after crews found significant beam and bearing pedestal deterioration during a recent bridge inspection.

PennDOT said the bridge will stay closed until bridge engineers make a plan to repair the structure.
During the bridge closure, southbound Route 420 motorists will be directed to use U.S. 13/Chester Pike, Stewart Avenue and northbound Interstate 95 to access Route 420.

The design of a project to replace the poor condition bridge is nearing completion and is tentatively scheduled for a construction bid opening in early 2023.
The Route 420 South bridge over Darby Creek was built in 1930 and reconstructed in 1951.
The three-span riveted steel thru-girder bridge is 237 feet long, 31 feet wide, and carries approximately 19,270 vehicles per day.
