DELAWARE COUNTY, PA β€” Crozer Health is officially closing Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital, its two remaining hospitals in Delaware County, and patients are being diverted to other facilities as of Wednesday morning.

According to the Main Line Media News, a bankruptcy court judge in Texas Tuesday reluctantly supported closing the hospitals by May 2.

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry shows the closure will lead to 2,651 layoffs that will be done from Friday through May 2.

"As Court appointed receiver, we are disappointed an alternative resolution and sale could not be reached," FTI Consulting said in a statement Monday. In October 2024, former Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry filed a civil lawsuit against Prospect Medical Holdings, accusing the group of "looting" Crozer Health System to the benefit of shareholders and neglecting the hospital system, its patients, and its staff since 2016.

In January, Prospect Medical Holdings filed for bankruptcy in January, then in March announced plans to close the two hospitals.

Since then, Delaware County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and others have worked to find a solution to prevent the facilities from closing.

The past several months have been filled with court hearings to determine the fate of these two crucial hospitals, that largely provide healthcare for underserved people in the region.
