Ruffalo stars as a Philadelphia-based FBI agent who is put in charge of a task force to end a string of violent robberies undertaken by an unassuming family man, according to HBO.
The series was created by Brad Inglesby, a Berwyn native who also created "Mare of Easttown," which was also filmed and set locally. Both "Task" and "Mare" are set in the "same universe."

Task filmed across the area. Shooting locations included Ridley, Aston, Chadds Ford, Edgmont, the Delaware County Courthouse in Media, and Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia.
Ruffalo said in an interview with Deadline that he will be playing a "damaged" FBI agent in "Task," and said his character and Kate Winslet's character from "Mare" could run into one another in the new series.

Ingelsby in 2021 said he was open to a sequel to the series, but little information about a follow-up came out until recently.
He said to follow up on the first season, he would want to ensure a new "story honors the first chapter and does things an audience will appreciate" to move forward with a new chapter of "Mare of Easttown."
