The flu is now widespread in Pennsylvania, with 1,159 cases reported statewide,Β the Pennsylvania Department of Health reports.
Flu seasons are unpredictable, but for the flu to be considered widespread, it means cases haveΒ been confirmed in at least half the regions of the state.
So far this season, through Dec. 21, theΒ number of confirmed flu casesΒ are as follows in the Lehigh Valley and Delaware,Β Bucks and Montgomery counties:
- Delaware County: 47 cases
- Chester County: 18 cases
- Bucks County:Β 14 cases
- Lehigh County: 37 cases
- Northampton County:Β 38 cases
- Montgomery County:Β 50 cases
Lab-confirmed flu cases represent only a fraction of those with the flu, state health officials say, since most peopleβincluding those who seek health careβare diagnosed without lab testing.Β
To better protect yourself from the fluβand the fever and body aches that go with itβhealth officials recommend getting a flu vaccine.
The state Department of HealthβsΒ websiteΒ and theΒ flu vaccine finderΒ provide information by county or zip code as toΒ where to get flu shots.
