Meehan Nominates Local Students to Service Academies

Rep. Pat Meehan (R-7) recently announced a Penncrest High School student who has received his nomination to a U.S. service academy, along with 34 other area students.

"It is a great honor to nominate these outstanding students for admission to our nation's service academies," said Meehan in a press release. "Each of these students has demonstrated tremendous potential for achievement and leadership. Our nation is blessed to have so many fine young men and women with the desire to serve, and I have no doubt that they will become great assets to our our country's uniformed services."

To assist in the nomination process, Meehan appointed local distinguished community members with a military background to a non-partisan Academy Advisory Board. According to the press release, nominees are selected based on factors such as academic achievements, leadership skills, extracurricular activities, physical aptitude, character and motivation. The nomination from Meehan does not guarantee admission to a service academy. The academies’ respective admissions boards decide who is offered appointment, and ultimately admitted.

The following local student was nominated by Meehan:

• Lauren C. Berlin, Penncrest High School, for the United States Air Force Academy.
