Donations Needed for 'Shop With Cops' Program

'Shop with Cops' gives area children the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their families.

The sixth Annual "Shop with Cops" program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at in Lower Nazareth Township, but donations are needed to give area children the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their families.

has selected several children in need who live within the department's jurisdiction, according to a press release from Police Chief Roy Seiple.

The day will begin with police officers picking up the children at their homes in a police cruiser. The day will continue with breakfast, shopping and present wrapping. A celebratory lunch will end the day.

"This program is funded by donations from private citizens and businesses within our community," Seiple wrote. "We are asking for donations to help these children in need have a happy holiday season."

In 2010, nine police officers, 11 children and 13 volunteers on Route 248. Approximately $4,200 in donations was received, including gift cards from and . Wal-Mart donated $1,250, and donated breakfast while donated lunch.

These donations allowed the nine children -- including two sets of siblings -- to spend $400 on Christmas presents for their parents, grandparents and siblings. The two sets of siblings received $450 to share.

All of the donations collected, according to the release, will be evenly distributed. The main goal is to allow these children to purchase gifts for their families, but they're also allowed to purchase something special for themselves.

"This program will give a child some positive time with a police officer and a special holiday, which they will remember for years to come," Seiple wrote.

To donate, contact Colonial Regional Police at (610) 861-4820. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 25.
