Driver Charged in Lafayette Student Hit-and-Run

Easton police say Wilson Kneebone is the driver who struck Lafayette student.

Easton police say they've tracked down the driver who struck a Lafayette College student in a hit-and-run crash Friday evening.

Wilson David Kneebone, 49, of Martins Creek was charged Saturday night with aggravated assault by vehicle, driving with a suspended or revoked license, accident involving injury and accident involving injury while not properly licensed.

Police had been looking for Kneebone's Jeep since around 6 Friday evening, when 18-year-old Lafayette freshman Aubrey Baumbach was hit while walking along Lehigh Drive.

Baumbach was in critical condition following the crash. She is a member of the college's crew team, and had been walking back from practice with her teammates at the time of the accident, the school's newspaper reported.

According to the Express-Times, Kneebone apparently told police "I know why you're here" when he was arrested.

Police had said Saturday they were examining surveillance footage in hopes of finding the driver.

According to the Morning Call, witnesses had screamed for Kneebone to stop. He allegedly responded that he was going for help, but never returned.

Court records show Kneebone has past convictions for driving without an inspection in 2009 and another for a hit-and-run-crash in Easton in 1997.

This was the second serious pedestrian accident on Lehigh Drive that's led to criminal charges this year.

West Easton resident Abraham Rivera was struck and killed by accused drunk driver Francis Roscioli in August. Roscioli is facing homicide by vehicle charges.
