HOLIDAY POLL: Is it Filling, Stuffing or Dressing?
The editor of Nazareth Patch sticks by "filling." What about you?

I grew up in a Pennsylvania Dutch household, so "filling" was the accepted way of referring to the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner staple.
I was also a waitress for nine years at a somewhat Pennsylvania Dutch restaurant -- Hartman's Family Restaurant (I'm still mourning the death of the homemade ice cream) in Belfast. I still remember the first time a customer requested "dressing" as one of the sides.
"Um... what kind of dressing?" I wondered out loud. "You haven't asked for a salad... uh... so, dressing?"

I truly thought the person really liked salad dressing. Luckily, the customer was polite and pointed to the word "filling" on the menu. Oy...
For this poll I did a little research on the topic of filling vs. stuffing vs. dressing -- I didn't learn much. This, apparently, is a very debatable topic.

What I kind of learned:
- "Filling" is used by the hardcore Pennsylvania Dutch.
- "Stuffing" is used because, well, you stuff the turkey before putting it in the oven. Logical.
- "Dressing" is used regardless of how the cook prepares the side dish. I'm still lost on this one.
So, what do you think? Make sure to take the poll below -- and feel free to explain the meaning of "dressing" in the comments section!
