Nazareth Area School District Cancels Orientation Day

Due to the impact of Hurricane Irene, orientation day scheduled for Monday has been canceled. The first day of school for all students will be Tuesday.

Despite the sun finally making an appearance following Hurricane Irene, Nazareth Area School District has decided to cancel an orientation day scheduled for Monday.

According to an announcement posted on the district's website, the orientation day was for students entering kindergarten, fourth grade, seventh grade and ninth grade.

The first day of school for all students will be Tuesday -- a regular full day.

In addition, all members of the Nazareth Area Education Association, associate teachers, associate nurses, associate librarians, one-on-one assistants, personal assistants and instructional assistants who were scheduled to attend the orientation and the professional development activities scheduled for Monday should not report.

The professional developement hours will be scheduled for a later date, according to the district's announcement.

There also will be no public or non-public transportation offered by the district on Monday.

The district asks that the community pass this message along to any residents who are still without power or to those who do not have access to the Internet.
