Nazareth Man Accused of Trying to Steal $366.08 in Groceries

Playing cards, fried chicken and a shrimp ring are just some of the items Randy Erdie, 52, allegedly tried to steal, according to police.

A Nazareth man allegedly packed his shopping cart with $366.08 worth of merchandise before trying to leave the  in without paying, according to .

On Dec. 20 around 7:35 p.m., police say, Randy Erdie, 52, of the 200 block of Hickory Street was stopped outside Giant with 79 items in his cart and several items on his person.

According to police, loss prevention staff observed Erdie place the following items in his cart: a poinsettia, Hot Wheels, playing cards, fried chicken, a shrimp ring and dog toys.

Loss prevention staff then watched as Erdie allegedly pushed the cart past all points of sale without paying.

When police searched Erdie, they found two packs of razor blades, hand sanitizer, liquid soap and lip balm.

Erdie was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Barner and charged with retail theft. He was released on $2,000 unsecured bail.

Erdie previously pleaded guilty to retail theft -- also in Lower Nazareth -- in February 2006, according to court documents.
