Teachers Vote on New Salary Scale
Nazareth Area School Board rejected a new salary scale for teachers and the teachers union voted on a revised plan Thursday.
The Nazareth Area School District teachers union accepted a new salary scale Thursday with one week left on the old matrix, The Express Times reports.
On Aug. 23, the Nazareth Area School Board unanimously rejected a salary plan for the district's teachers.
The sticking point was the scale's top and bottom steps. The board and administration felt the raises at the bottom were too low while the raises at the top were too high. For example, a teacher at Step One of the bachelor's degree track would have received a $1 increase under the proposal, while a teacher at Step 16 would have received a raise of several thousand dollars, Superintendent Victor Lesky said.

The new plan, according the article, includes a 1.84 percent raise for Step 16, while teachers on Step 1 will get 4 percent.
The school board will hold a special meeting Monday, Aug. 29 at 7:30pm to vote on the new salary scale.
