Report Looks at Norristown Greening Efforts

The non-profit Save Our Land, Save Our Towns, Inc. recently produced a report outling recent greening efforts by Norristown, an ambitious program funded by a $2.2 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).

According to the report, over 2,000 trees have been planted in Norristown parks and school grounds and along Stony Creek and Saw Mill Run that will, over the next decades, absorb millions of gallons of storm water and keep it from overwhelming our sewer systems.

The report is an independent assesment of Norristown's assets and liabilities in relation to greening efforts and was not authorized or endorsed by the municipality, PENNVEST, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission or any other state or federal agency. It appeared as a paid supplement in a recent issue of The Times Herald.

Save Our Land, Save Our Towns, Inc. is reportedly dedicated to "change in private attitudes, change in public policy. Through education and advocacy, the non-profit champions the use of regional planning, growth boundaries and traditional town design," according to its website.
