34 Deer Killed in County Hunt at Norristown Farm Park

The annual county-sponsored hunt is intended to reduce the effects of too many deer – deer/vehicle accidents, damage to ecosystems, neighboring landscapes and agricultural commodities and the spread of Lyme Disease carrying ticks.

According to PhillyBurbs.com, 35 hunters armed with 12-gauge shotguns put down 34 deer at the annual county-sponsored hunt at the on Wednesday.

The hunt is intended to reduce the effects of too many deer, including reducing the number of deer/vehicle accidents, damage to the park’s varied ecosystems, neighboring landscapes and agricultural commodities as well as the transport of Lyme Disease carrying ticks.

“Everything went smoothly,” county Communications Director Frank X. Custer told PhillyBurbs.com. “There were no safety problems.”

The hunters clean the deer themselves and get to take the meat home at the end of the hunt.
