UPDATE: Afternoon Apartment Fire Closes Down Haws Ave.
Several companies responded to the report of a building fire on the 200 block of Haws Ave. this afternoon.
Multiple fire departments responded to the 1pm report of a fire on the 200 block of Haws Ave. this afternoon. Fire department personell on the scene say the fire was extinguished quickly, but traffic was diverted from the area for up to an hour as firefighters secured the scene.
According to reports in , the fire on the third floor of the home was reportedly started by a child playing with matches. A Norristown police officer reportedly told the Herald that a 13-year-old boy was the only person home at the time of the fire.
The were no injuries reported and the fire is currently under investigation.

UPDATE: Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O'Donnell told The Times Herald the fire was accidently caused by the 13-year-old boy.
“He was playing with matches. He said he was lighting incense,” O’Donnell told the Herald. “The fire involved the bedding on the bed. He tried dousing it with water. He did close the door to the bedroom which confined the fire to that bedroom and he called 911 for help. Unfortunately he was playing with matches. He did do some unwise things and some wise things.”

According to the Herald, the entire structure was condemned by Norristown Code Enforcement.
