Balligomingo Road to Close at Route 23 in West Conshy Starting July 9

According to a release issued by PennDOT, Balligomingo Road will be closed and detoured at Route 23 (Front Street) in West Conshohocken for 10 months starting Monday, July 9 while crews work to improve travel and safety at the intersection. 

The upcoming road closure is part of the $4.8 million project to rebuild Route 23 and realign 600 feet of Balligomingo Road by moving it 400 feet to the west to create a new “T” intersection at Route 23. The new, signalized intersection will enhance travel in the immediate area and provide motorists with full access to both roadways.

PennDOT’s contractor is currently rebuilding 1,000 feet of Front Street in the area of the Balligomingo Road for the new intersection. Route 23, which is presently closed and detoured between Route 320 (Swedeland Road) and Matsonford Road, is scheduled to reopen in late July, weather permitting.  

When Balligomingo Road is closed at Route 23:

• Drivers on Balligomingo Road will reach Route 23 by following I-76 East or Route 320 (Holstein Road/Swedeland Road); and 
• Drivers traveling west on Route 23 will access Balligomingo Road by following I-76 West to the Gulph Mills Interchange and Route 23 (Front Street) drivers heading east will take Route 320 (Swedeland Road/Holstein Road). 

Local access will be maintained on Balligomingo Road up to the construction zone. Balligomingo Road is expected to reopen in May 2013, when the entire project is scheduled for completion.

PennDOT began construction to relocate and improve the intersection in April 2011.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J. is the general contractor on the $4,799,000 project that is financed entirely with state funds.

This intersection improvement project is a partnership between West Conshohocken and PennDOT. West Conshohocken financed and performed the engineering design phase of the project and PennDOT is managing construction.
