NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County officials have issued a 'Code Red' hot weather emergency for Thursday due to an extreme heat forecast.
The county issued the weather advisory between the hours of 12 noon and 8 p.m.
During the hot weather emergency, anyone who is in need of emergency shelter can call 2-1-1 or text their zip code to 898-211.

In Montgomery County, the Department of Public Safety is responsible for recommending Code Red heat emergency declarations to the county commissioners based on forecasts from meteorologists with the National Weather Service.
A Code Red Hot Weather Warning is issued in anticipation of an oppressively hot air mass with a heat index of 100 degrees or greater, according to the DPS.

The warnings are especially aimed at-risk populations, such as the elderly, the young, people with chronic illnesses or those taking certain medications.
A similar emergency declaration was issued in the county just recently.
