Details of Friday Fire on Walnut Street
No word on a cause yet, but no one was injured in the basement fire on the 500 block of Walnut Street on Friday.
According to the Norristown Fire Department, firefighters responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, where they found a fire burning in the basement of a three-story row home.
Radio reports catalogued by PhillyFireNews.com state that units arriving on the scene encountered heavy smoke showing from the building.

Firefighters received initial reports that someone may have been in the basement, however all occupants had made it out okay and a search of the premises revealed no one in the building.
"The fire apparently started in basement living quarters and we had to go into the basement to suppress the fire," Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O’Donnell told The Times Herald at the scene on Friday. "We got everyone out safely and there were no injuries. But we’re not sure what the cause of the fire was at this point. The fire marshal just arrived on the scene and we’ll start our investigation shortly."

No word yet on a cause for the fire.
Norristown firefighters were assisted by crews from Plymouth, Bridgeport, Goodwill, East Norriton, Swedeland, Barren Hill and Center Square fire companies.
