UPDATE: Fire at Haws and Airy Under Investigation
Norristown Fire Department and several others responded to a fire in a three-story home this morning.
Firefighters from the Norristown Fire Department were joined by several other area fire companies responding to a call of a fire enveloping the second and third floors of a three-story, multi-family home on the corner of Haws Avenue and West Airy Street shortly after 11 a.m. today.
According to Norristown Fire Chief Tom O'Donnell, construction workers were in the building at the time the fire broke out but it is unclear if their activity was involved in starting the blaze. Chief O'Donnell told The Herald that the workmen did not have a permit to be doing work at the building and did not call 911 immediately. The building was evacuated quickly and no one was injured in the incident.
According to , George Street and Haws Avenue were both closed between West Main Street and West Airy Street while firefighters fought the flames consuming the structure.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania said that eight people in three families were aided by Red Cross volunteers and workers as a result of loosing their homes.
The fire is still under investigation and firefighters were still securing the scene at 2:30 p.m.
