MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A flash flood warning has been issued in Montgomery County and Philadelphia as a powerful storm makes its way across eastern Pennsylvania.

Rain is expected to fall up to an inch per hour through the afternoon, and could bring severe impacts in some areas. Montgomery County and the city itself look to be hardest hit, though heavy rain is possible throughout the suburbs.

The flash flood warning is in place until 4:15 p.m. Waterways like the Schuylkill River, Perkiomen Creek, and Skippack Creek are at risk.

“Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," the National Weather Service said. "Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas” is likely.

The storm will be localized, with some avoiding the brunt of it.

“The activity will remain isolated to scattered and slow moving in nature today,” the National Weather Service added. “Not everyone will experience rain, but remain alert for heavy downpours and possible flooding.”

The intense blast of weather comes as intermittent rain and thunderstorms blanket eastern Pennsylvania. Rain and thunder remain possible through the night Wednesday after the strongest storm fronts move through, and a smaller chance of storms will persist around the Philly area through Thursday night.

The front will move out by Friday with a clear weekend on tap, forecasters said.
