Forget Phil, Norristown Has Nora

Nora the Groundhog will be making her weather prediction at noon at Elmwood Park Zoo.

The upstate upstart Punxsutawney Phil will be making his winter weather prediction around 7:20 a.m. this morning, but let's face it – can we trust a guy who lives that far west? Besides, Norristown has its own furry fortune teller: Nora the Groundhog. Nora will be making her own prediction at noon (a more reasonable hour) at and she's invited the whole town to turn out for the show.

According to the zoo, Nora came to Elmwood Park Zoo from the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in New York. She was injured and couldn't survive in the wild, so she came to Norristown to be an educational ambassador for native wildlife.

Tomorrow she'll be acting as ambassador for Mother Nature and giving us a heads up on what to expect in the way of winter weather for the next six weeks. Come out to Elmwood Park Zoo at noon and join the fun. And let's hope Nora's got some good news for us.
