Forget the Gas Guzzler Today and Hop a Train

According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), a public interest group that promotes public transportation and the transit industry, today, June 21, is National Dump the Pump Day. 

The idea is that when gas prices are soaring, we can all save money and precious resources by taking public transportation. According to the APTA, the latest research shows that in 2010, U.S. public transportation use saved 796 million hours in travel time and 303 million gallons of fuel in 439 urban areas and a transit report from the group shows a two-person household can save more than $10,000 a year on average by downsizing to one car.
