Gospel, Jazz & Blues Festival at Elmwood Park This Saturday

Norristown's Bicentennial Celebration continues with this tribute to Thomas A. Dorsey, the "Father of Gospel."

According to a release issued by The Living Ground Ministries (TLG), to help celebrate Norristown’s Bicentennial, TLG and the Greater Norristown Area Ministerium are assembling a 200-person mass choir for a Gospel, Jazz & Blues Festival at the Fire Chief's Band Shell in Elmwood Park on Saturday, June, 23. from noon to 6 p.m.

The musical line up will feature a collection of voices from the diverse community of the greater Norristown area. In addition, the Community Jazz School from Trappe will perform selections composed by Thomas A. Dorsey, known throughout the world as the "Father of Gospel." Dorsey’s music has been performed by over 400 artists including Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and many others.

State Sen. Daylin Leach and Montogmery County Commissioner Leslie Richards are also scheduled to attend.

Band Shell Stage Schedule:

Noon to 1 p.m. – Welcome, introductions and a short history of Gospel music, followed by performances by local talent.

1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Blues and Jazz groups.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Performances by Vicki Yohe and Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, and a 200-person combined "Choir of Norristown."

4 p.m. to 6 p.m. – More music!
