Gov. Corbett to Visit Norristown Area Today

The governor will be at Visitation Elementary on Trooper Road to publicize a new bill aimed at protecting student athletes.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett will be in our neck of the woods today to sign a bill introduced by state Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery; 150 Dist.) aimed at protecting student athletes from sudden cardiac arrest syndrome.

According to The Morning Call, Corbett will sign House Bill 1610 in an 11 a.m. ceremony at Visitation B.V.M. Elementary on Trooper Road. The state house reportedly unanimously approved the bill last week.

The bill requires training for coaches, trainers and athletic directors and education for parents and student-athletes about the problem. The bill also requires coaches to remove students exhibiting symptoms from the play and have them cleared by a medical professional.
