Hank Cisco Re-Appointed Ambassador of Norristown

Norristown's famous elder statesman has been holding the post for seven years.

Hank Cisco, stood before Norristown's Municipal Council in chambers at on Tuesday, Jan. 3, to be sworn in once more as Ambassador of Norristown.

Cisco, a former police officer and professional boxer, man about town and Norristown's biggest booster, has held the office for the last seven years and shows no signs of slowing down in his tireless mission to promote Norristown.

Cisco noted that he's operated his office with no budget and no pay for his entire term as ambassador and even offered to help the municipality with its budget woes.

"I want to ask the finance director to cut my salary in half," Cisco joked.

Other appointments made by council in the special reorganization session included:

  • Remington, Vernick & Beach Engineers, of Conshohocken, appointed as Primary Municipal Engineer.
  • David R. Forrest as Municipal Administrator.
  • The Law Firm of Friedman, Schuman, Applebaum, Nemeroff & McCaffery, P.C., of Jenkintown, as Solicitor.
  • The Law Firm of Cozen O'Connor, of Philadelphia, as Labor Attorney.

According to Norristown's Home Rule Charter, directors and the zoning officer must be appointed on an annual basis. The following municipal employees were appointed by resolution for 2012:

  • Richard Zawisa, CPA, as Director of Finance.
  • Russel J. Bono as Interim Director of Public Safety.
  • Jayne Musonye as Director of Planning and Municipal Development & Zoning Officer.
  • Robert Glisson as Director of Public Works.
  • Joseph Januzelli as Building Code Official.

Council also appointed several citizens to various commissions and committees including:

  • Douglas Olsen, Landscape Architect, appointed as alternate to the Shade Tree Committee. Olsen's term will expire on Dec. 31, 2012.
  • William Ward, Gale Brenehan and Doug Seiler were appointed to the Historical Architecture Review Board for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2015.
  • Doug Seiler was appointed to the Board of Code Appeals for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2015.
  • Scott Stilley was appointed to the open Space Committee for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2014.
  • Cathy Lawrence was appointed to the Norristown Municipal Waste Authority for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2016.
  • William Caldwell was appointed to the Blighted Property Review Board for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2015.
