Headed to a Super Bowl Party Sunday? Keep an Eye on the Weather

Snow could make a mess of area roads, and partygoers should be prepared to change their plans, PennDOT says.

Sadly, we don’t have a team in the fight, but that won’t stop many of us from heading to Super Bowl celebrations on Sunday.

It’s just that Mother Nature may throw a wrench in our plans, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says.

“With the potential for several inches to a foot of snow in Pennsylvania on Super Bowl Sunday, PennDOT today urged drivers to watch weather forecasts and be prepared to change any travel plans,” the agency said Friday.

On Super Bowl Sunday 2014, there were 287 accidents, 17 of them alcohol-related, PennDOT said. The accidents resulted in two deaths.

“Many people celebrate with friends and family for the Super Bowl, but no matter the day we need to think safety first,” Acting PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said. “Drivers should be prepared to stay home if conditions warrant, but regardless of what weather comes, people should never drive impaired by drugs or alcohol.”
