Heat Wave To Bring 100 Degree Temperatures To Philly Area

All time heat records are likely to be broken as the region will see eight consecutive days of dangerous heat, forecasters said.

EASTERN PA — Temperatures will reach triple digits in the greater Philadelphia area this week, as a potentially lethal heat wave appears likely to break all time heat records on multiple days.

A heat advisory is in place for the entire region from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, and an excessive heat watch has been issued for Wednesday morning through Saturday night. The area could see up to eight consecutive days over 90 degrees.

"The temperature will climb into the mid-90s several days in a row, with the hottest conditions expected during the second half of the week," AccuWeather said. "There won't be much relief from the heat after the sun sets either, as overnight lows will only fall into the mid-70s."

Given the brightness of the sun and the humidity, the heat index will be even higher.

"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," the National Weather Service said.

High temperatures will rise throughout the week, from 90 on Monday to the mid-90s by midweek before breaching 100 degrees on Friday and Saturday.

The forecasted high on several days in Philadelphia is higher than the all time high temperature record for that date. The record high for Friday, June 21 is 99 and was set in 1923. The forecast calls for a high 0f 101 in the city that day.
