MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A local couple is recalling the harrowing experience of being at the center of a deadly mass shooting outside of a Las Vegas casino resort five years ago.

Bob and Katie Fuhrmeister, of Montgomery County, were celebrating Katie's birthday along the famous Las Vegas strip when the gunshots rang out, something the couple said they would never forget, according to a report on 6 ABC.

Bob, a volunteer firefighter in Montgomery County, told the television news station that what he saw during that mass shooting incident back in October 2017 caused him to suffer what he expects will be lifelong post-traumatic stress.

Paddock had been holed up in his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay on the 32nd floor when he began shooting out of his window and into crowds below.

The shooting, which took place during the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, claimed the lives of 60 people and wounded 867 others, making it what is widely considered to be the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
