Man Faces Attempted Child Sex Charges After Undercover Internet Sting
Authorities said the man thought he was chatting with a teenager, but it was really an East Norriton Township Police detective.

A Doylestown man faces criminal charges after the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said he tried to use the Internet to meet teenage boys for sex.
Kurt Krumpholz, 54, is charged with criminal attempt of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16; criminal attempt of unlawful contact with a minor; and criminal use of a communication facility.
Authorities said Krumpholz thought he was meeting two boys, ages 13 and 14, to perform oral sex on them, on Jan. 19 when he arrived at the Friendly’s on West Germantown Pike in East Norriton Township.

What Krumpholz didn’t know, District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said, was that he hadn’t been chatting with a teenage boy online -- he’d been talking to East Norriton Township Police Det. Michael Henricks, who’d been undercover online.
Once Henricks began communicating with Krumpholz, the District Attorney’s Office said, “it was immediately apparent Krumpholz’s intent was to commit illegal acts.”

Krumpholz was met by law enforcement at the restaurant, authorities said, and was arrested.
“The Internet has made it easier for predators to locate and target child sexual-assualt victims,” Ferman said. “To combat this scourge, law enforcement has developed the tools needed to seek out these predators and catch them before they damage innocent lives.”
The investigation was a cooperative effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force; the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office; the East Norriton Township Police Department; and the Major Crimes Unit.
Krumpholz was arraigned in front of Magisterial Judge Cathleen Rebar, and bail was set at $500,000. He was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set for 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Colgan.
