UPDATE: Man Found Dead on Norristown Library Steps

The 46-year-old homeless man apparently overdosed according to police reports.

According to reports from the , the 46-year-old homeless man found dead earlier today on the steps of the  died of an apparent drug overdose. Officers report that when they were shown the body by the security guard who found him, there was vomit on his face and clothes and on the ground around his body. Police also say there were what they believe to be several empty drug packets scattered around him.

Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono told Philly.com that there was no sign of foul play or evidence that the man was robbed.

“It’s sad, but we really don’t think there’s anything suspicious,” Bono told Philly.com. “It was just an overdose.”

Police are withholding the man's identity until they can contact his family. He reportedly lived in East Norriton Township previously and spent time in homeless shelters located in Norristown, but police believe that he had recently been living on the streets. Police had had prior contact with the man according to reports.

According to The Times Herald, security guards discovered the homeless man's body on the steps of the at 7 a.m. this morning.

Authorities say the county coroner's office will be conducting an investigation along with Det. David Maza of the .

The Herald reports that early morning library patrons who were entering at the Powell Street entrance had any idea the body was there.
