Markley Street To Be Restricted In Norristown For Stone Bridge Repairs
The next step in the $7.8 million project will provide crucial repairs to the underside of the arch.
NORRISTOWN, PA — A $7.8 million project to repair the Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge in Norristown will lead to traffic restrictions on Markley Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
Work will take place from Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During that time, Markley Street northbound will be reduced to one lane from Harding Boulevard to Spruce Street and Marshall Street.

Crews will be completing concrete work during the day.
"PennDOT’s contractor has substantially completed top-side work on the Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge and is finishing repairs to the under-side 'arch barrels' that support the structure," officials said in a statement.

The construction to the underside of the Elm Street Bridge is expected to be completed by Dec. 2025.
It's the latest in roughly 10 years of intermittent construction work to improve the Markley Street and U.S. 202 south corridor in Norristown. The work has brought an expanded and widened Markley Street intersection, new adaptive traffic signals, new curbs and sidewalks and guardrails, and relocated water mains and sewers.
Drivers should plan for delays while the lane restriction is in place.
