Mercy Suburban Unveils New Cancer Center

Last week, hosted a dedication and blessing to mark the unveiling of the new Mercy Cancer Center on the campus of the hospital in East Norriton. The new facility will begin accepting patients this month.

The cancer center is a 12,000-square foot, two-story outpatient facility offering a comprehensive array of cancer care services to detect, diagnose and treat cancer.  It will house brand-new equipment with an emphasis on advanced radiation technology. A newly acquired image-guided linear accelerator uses RapidArc technology to target tumors with tremendous speed and precision. High-dose-rate brachytherapy is available for delivering targeted radiation to cancerous cites while sparing surrounding tissue.

"What patients will find is a convenient, modern facility that’s comfortable, easy to access and has all of the latest technology for providing advanced cancer care," says Robert DiDomenico, administrative director of the Oncology Program at Mercy Suburban Hospital. "Cancer Center patients will now have their own entrance, dedicated parking and all of Mercy Suburban’s cancer care services in one location."

The new facility features additional patient exam rooms and physician offices, plus a conference center for physician and patient education, cancer case reviews, support groups and health screenings focusing on prevention. Patients receiving chemotherapy have access to private, spacious infusion bays with ample space for family members.

The Mercy Cancer Center is the first suburban cancer center and the second cancer center in the Delaware Valley to offer CancerHelp kiosks, which are easy-to-use touchscreen programs with trusted information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). CancerHelp Learning kiosks provide the perfect way for patients and families to learn more about treatment and diagnosis, side effects, coping with cancer, prevention and screening.
