Truck That Crashed in Norristown was Hauling Recycling for Another Company
T&D Trucking, the New Jersey-based company that owns the waste truck, was contracting for a Philadelphia company when the accident occurred.
, was subcontracting for a Philadelphia-based company, hauling paper from a nearby J.P. Mascaro & Sons facility, according to the company's owner and other sources.
Information about T&D Trucking Disposal Logistics, Inc., the New Jersey-based company that owns that truck, . Only one business listing for the company could be found, listing the address as 2 Mississippi Trail in Turnersville, N.J. – a private residence. Inquiries made to local, county and state officials could not verify a business licensed at that address. Eventually an official with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) confirmed that the company was registered and authorized to conduct interstate business, though the official confirmed that T&D Trucking's insurance carrier is reportedly canceling the business' policy effective Aug. 3, 2012.

With information from the FMCSA, Norristown Patch was able to contact the owner of T&D Trucking, Jorge Rizzi, who owns the home at 2 Mississipi Trail. Rizzi confirmed that the T&D Trucking operates a dozen trucks and was contracted on Monday, July 2, by Philadelphia-based Green Earth Recycling to pick up a load of recycled material from the J.P. Mascaro & Sons facility on Route 202, just over the Dannehower Bridge in Bridgeport, and deliver it to the Green Earth Recycling facility in southwest Philadelphia.
"It was just paper," said Rizzi. "Cardboard. It was not solid waste."

The truck was on its way to deliver the paper when the brakes reportedly failed at the Main and Markley streets intersection. The truck went through a red light, struck a passenger vehicle passing through the intersection and then veered off towards the Markley Street SEPTA station, jumping the curb and the concrete embankment and crashing into more cars in the stations parking lot. The truck caused damage to the tracks and ruptured its fuel tanks, spilling diesel fuel into the train station's parking lot.
A state trooper who inspected the truck reportedly found 14 equipment violations and issued citations to T&D Trucking for each, but Rizzi maintains he was told only that the brakes failed and "needed adjusting." Rizzi did not comment on the other reported violations.
Pennsylvania State Police confirm that they aided in the initial crash investigation that day, but any further investigation would be handled by the . Norristown Police officials were unavailable for comment on the possibility of an ongoing investigation.
Norristown Municipal Manager Dave Forrest said he doesn't believe any municipal property was damaged in the crash.
